It appears that the horsepower wars are over. Scion took the wraps off its three-passenger iQ concept on Wednesday at the 2009 New York Auto Show, trotting out a 93-horsepower micro-subcompact that seems to take direct aim at the Smart Fortwo.

The front-wheel-drive iQ concept — a three-door hatchback — is an edgier version of the production Toyota iQ, which is sold in Europe and Japan. Scion described the concept as just over 10 feet in length and aimed at "young urban trendsetters."

Scion would not say "when" the iQ concept is bound for production, only "if" it is bound for production.

"We believe the Scion iQ micro-subcompact concept is the future of transportation," said Jack Hollis, Scion vice president. "If it should join our future lineup, I think it could reach iconic status like our xB."

Scion said the concept was customized inside and out by Five Axis of Huntington Beach, California, a high-profile tuner that puts its hand to Scion products for the annual SEMA show.

The Scion iQ concept is powered by a 93-hp 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine.

Details include custom 18-inch wheels with a nickel finish, a custom front airdam, a center-mounted trapezoid exhaust and aero headlamps.

The cabin of the concept gets iridescent green and gray honeycomb upholstery and a 10-inch panel LCD screen on top of the center cluster that serves as the main entertainment console and navigation system interface. When not in use, the screen sits flat on the dash with a translucent cover that emits a colorful display of light patterns.

  • I don't care what anyone says negatively about this SUV, even my husband! I absolutely love it! I would put some shiny new rims and tires on a black one with tinted windows and just ride around with no where to go in particular! I even wish I could work for GM! Love, Love, Love!!!!

  • GMC always has better designs than Chevrolet. The Canyon is better looking than the Colorado, Sierra is better looking than the Silverado, and now the Terrain is better looking than the Equinox. I can almost guarantee you that most people will agree with me, except for some douche bag doing what he does best, and .........be a douche bag.

  • @WallyWest55 Thats kinda crazy. But hey I guess you will have one of the first 2011models. I got mine last Thursday and i'm lovin it. Its such a smooth ride the sound system is great and overall i feel pretty pimpin drivin around town... the only down side is it attracts dirt like nobody's business. But the white when its clean is sooooo nice looking I dont regret getting it in white at all

  • @ThaiBox2007 I got a call today saying mine is delayed two weeks and will be a 2011 in "olympic" white rather than the "summit."

  • @WallyWest55 Not yet :( its supposed to be next week , I cant wait!

  • @ThaiBox2007 Nice, I ordered white as well. Did you get it yet?

  • Mine is coming to me in a month in summit white! Its gonna be my esclade wanna be lol

  • to onehundreddollars: The Terrain would be a better choice over the Equinox for a guy looking for something smaller than a Tahoe or Yukon. With it's squared lines and large grille, it just looks more masculine than the softer, rounder looking Equinox.

  • I dont understand why people would put down a big suv like the terrain when it gets the fuel economy of a car.

  • I like it alot! It has a very strong look, the grill is outstanding and then it just gets better from the sides to the back. Giving it a SUV look on a Crossover platform.

It has all the three main aspects, economy, space and comfort in ample proportions.

At the price it will be starting at, I cant tell you there will be alot of these on the roads, and if your in the market for a crossover and you don't want the more feminine equinox, this is your best deal.
