@seanoroo1 No mate it was a sport invented by the coaches of the Australian cricket team to keep the players fit in winter and was based on both gaelic and an Aboriginal dreamtime game called Marngrook (Game-Ball in English). Its is now the most played and watched sport in Australia.

@end4song There is more money in NFL because it's a bigger league with more teams in a bigger country. Although with alot of aussie players, they play for the love of the sport, not simply the size of the pay cheque, something americans will never understand, it's all about the money to you...Only a couple of aussies have gone to NFL. Rookies don't deserve over 300'000 a year because they're not worth it, most politicians dont even get that much.

The only reason any aussie, would try for the NFL is money. 2011 season. Rookies make a minimum of 375,000.

Which sport is better? GUESS WHAT, your likely to follow whatever sport you grow up with...Is this hard to understand? Can you imagine how boring the world would be if only one sport was played? Aussies like AFL because its Australian, Americans like NFL because its American. Here's a thought...If you don't like a particular sport...Don't watch! I'm Australian and I don't like NFL, but I don't go around saying AFL is better just because it's what I personally prefer, It's where you come from...

AFL is the most watched sport according to Tv Australia. NRL (state of origin) is a close secound.

@Lachdog18 OK I was close, but if where getting technicle I believe the most played sport in this country is soccer, the most watched (TV ratings) is NRL, Im a mad Victorian AFL supporter but if ur gunna get high and mighty and correct my facts maybe u should check ur own.
