"I live in Illinois and CCW is not an option"
Thanks to Barack Obama and his gun-banning friends in Illinois.
All the more reason we gun owners need to show up next week and stop that sneaky little prick from turning the whole country into the Chicago ghetto, complete with near-total gun bans.
Fortunately, here in Virginia we have a pretty enlightened view -- open carry state, and "shall-issue" CCW. Still waiting for the Democrats here to fuck that up, though.

He's gonna legislate me into being a criminal because I wont stop carrying my weapon. Its God given right to defend oneself.

@brian47374 I agree, I think everyone should think and learn from others, question what they already know, advance upon that, and find what works best for them, and of course practice practice practice.

The FBI rule of 3, most gun fights happen within 3 yards with 3 shots fired and are over in 3 seconds.

I found this video pretty informational but his guys hands just dont stop moving ! It really is an annoying distraction, sry had to say it.

Since there is so much emphasis on the amount of distance gained between you and the attacker, why don't you just move straight back? That's 100% increase in space! None of these considerations account for the fact that the attacker will close the distance at a speed much much faster than your lateral or rear lateral movements. Also in order for you to be an effective shooter with that fancy footwork, you'd have to practice a ton. Might as well practice some hand to hand instead.
I am not saying this is wrong or I know everything but as a person that wrestles and plays baseball I do not agree with crossing your feet. 9 times out of 10 when someone falls in baseball there feet were crossed and in wrestling too if you cross your feet it is very easy just to trip or push over that person

@suicidalslug12 I didn't say that it was for everyone. I'm just saying that one shouldn't rule it out. With practice, it is a VERY effective method of traversing ground. I've been using it for 25 years even at running speeds and have yet to fall.

Just being a little picky here but your statement of "the average person can cover 21 feet in 1.5 seconds" is factually incorrect as I am assuming this is what you are Eluding to, the 21 foot rule states that is the minimum distance that two shots could be fired center mass would be 21 feet, that has since been changed. Anyhow you have some interesting Idea's thanks for sharing.

@SlayerofFiction No, I've covered 21 feet of ground in about 1.5 seconds. And I've had others do it. Of course, it is an "average". Yes, I know the Tueller drill is what you are basing your statement upon. I'm basing it upon my studies.

@brian47374 your missing the reason why that rule was re thought, the Tueller drill states that distance as that of which you can draw and fire two shots before the attacker is upon you, not that you may cover that ground safely. Its a flawed and idiotic rule anyhow as more often than not you will be within a few feet of eachother and "not knowing" when said person will strike.

@SlayerofFiction Most people who reference the 21 foot rule are talking about the Tueller drill. All I'm saying is that ANYONE within 21 ft of you can be considered a potential threat and can be ontop of you within 1.5 seconds on average. Some faster and some slower. 80% of confrontations take place 0-6 ft. Which will consume your reaction time if they make the first move. Even from 10 tt away you have about .75 seconds. Not much time.

@SlayerofFiction The Tueller drill is flawed in many ways. I am not a big fan of it. I like to do my own drills that demonstrate the reality of how things REALLY happen and that is without notice and the likelihood of you successfully responding are not good. Of course, that's assuming you don't pick up on the rituals of attack. Nonetheless, the AVERAGE person can cover 21ft of ground in ABOUT 1.5 seconds.
