Den Haan Rotterdam Trawler kerosene lamp/lantern with DHR 20iii (line) burner. The DHR burner is an version of the Ideal 20iii Brenner (burner) which is an evolution of the Ehrich & Graetz of Berlin "Matador" brenner introduced in early 1890's. I have all three burners and they are very similar with slight variations. The video shows the desired "tulip" shaped flame caused by the flame spreader, the air intake and the bulge chimney working in unison. You get a very large and bright flame with almost zero smoke and kerosene fumes. A very efficient design even by today's standards. The Matador burners use a 3" wide flat wick but shape it into a cylinder as it feeds into the burner. The wide wick is shaped into a compact circular shape which gives a large area for the flame in effect almost tripling the size of the flame. DHR still sells the Trawler lamps but the costs are very high. Average retail is $300 + but you can find them used for decent prices. This one was purchased at a garage sale for $30. It was painted with gold paint which I will be removing to expose the brass which then can be polished back to look like new.
