To mark the 35th anniversary of the 'fall of Saigon' we post this raw footage of the scene around the United States Embassy in Saigon Vietnm between 8am and 9am April 30th 1975. Apologies for the video quality. The 16mm film shows the last US marine helicopter leaving the rooftop helipad. Vietnamese waiting in vain for rescue on the helipad. Scenes of the looting of the US Embassy. Interviews with Vietnamese left behind. Within two hours of these scenes, North Vietnamese troops entered the city and Hanoi completed its 'Great Spring Victory.'

This had to be the most horrible day in recent history. A whole country was lost on that day and so many millions were to die and suffer in the aftermath of the Communist takeover. Reeducation camps, new economic zones, boat people, Cambodia...
