People who believe the the US Constitution mandates "separation of church and state" are simply ignorant about what it really says.
The "separation of church and state" concept actually comes from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptists in 1802. This was 13 years after the Constitution was ratified. And in his letter, Jefferson said the state should stop meddling in the church, not vice-versa!
As John Adams said, "facts are stubborn things." Read the Constitution and learn.

The Pilgrims vision was not for starting a country, but to have their own little settlement. 72 years after landing at Plymouth Rock, the Salem Witch trials led to the hanging of 19 persons and the stone suffocation of another.
Ministers & churches were funded by taxpayers and many many communities were divided because of such.
William Bradford knew about religious persecution and would have agreed with the founders of the constitution to separate church & state.. once the idea was formed
