Painting with Demons: Shading

- Shading -

Here is the second video in a six part series painting a Privateer Press Sniper model using my favorite paints, Privateer Press paints.

In this video I'm painting in the shade pass using Privateer Press Thornwood Green.

I won Games Workshop: Golden Demon Award in 94' with my Striking Scorpion Karandras model. Since then, I went to school for art and have been working in the videogame industry for 10 years. I'm sharing my painting techniques with fellow painters just as they shared their painting techniques with me over 15 years ago.

  • My favorite brushes are Royal Magestic. I purchase them from my local Hobby Lobby.

They have a very thick handle which makes holding the brush easier, and keeps my hands from cramping up.

  • I want to thank everyone for the positive feedback, and im happy everyone finds them helpful!!

  • very helpful video :)

  • The dialog is great. However painting is a highly visual art. We really need to see the step by step progression so it all clicks together. The shot of the mini at the end was kinda blurry in ok lighting- could be better. Something to think about.

  • This might sound really stupid, but why Future floor wax? What does it do for us?

  • what brushes to you use?

  • So he's painting a lighter, thinner paint (of the same color) onto the places that he wants to shade, right?

  • Really appreciate these...I am new...or rather not in the hobby for a couple of decades and coming back...these are wonderful tutorials. My first mods are looking better than anything I did decades ago in part to the tips and tricks learned from you and other Youtube tutorials. SO THANK YOU.

  • they are great vids but we really need to be able to see the mini as you are painting it, up close.

  • yea, I agree. I would be great if you found a way for use to see you up close as you paint the mini. It would help me alot!!! Still great vids!!!
