"Driven By Vision" Episode 203

An Austin potter who's transformed her entire home into a shrine to her family and friends. And a Georgia fortune-teller who transformed the family farm into a temple for his one-man religion, while transforming himself into a self-anointed saint. Two people driven to change, and Driven by Vision.
Part A Sharon Smiths Altars Austin, Texas
Sharon Smith is a raku potter, and uses the cremains of her dead friends and family in the creation of her pottery. The pieces are now part of an entire house-full of shrines to the living and dead. Assembled from hand-made works and primitive folk-art collected from around the world, there is now barely enough room for one person in her modest Austin home.
Part B - St. Eoms Passaquan Buena Vista, Georgia
When Jimmy Carter consulted a local fortuneteller about his chances of a second term, Eddie Owens Martin told him that Ronald Regan was going to win, thanks to a mean talk and a good head of hair.
Eddie, a former Greenwich Village street hustler-turned-flamboyant-rural Georgia-Shaman, claimed to have visions, including the one that told him to build a personal retreat and sanctuary in rural Georgia. He changed his name to Saint EOM and his self-created religion, Pasaquoyanism, was a blend of ancient native American and oriental influence that permeated the walls, structures, paintings and statuary he erected over a 20 year period. He took his own life in 1986, willing the installation to the local Historical Society, who are now attempting to restore and maintain it.
