This airfield is where the Enola Gay and Bocks Car and the rest of the 509th bomb group trained before being deployed to the pacific theater and eventually dropping the atomic bombs on Japan.
I was stationed at Wendover for three months Jan 1957 - March 1957. That fire you mentioned in the hanger was discovered by me as i was on fire watch that particular night. I can`t believe they never repaired it. We were there from Foster AFB in Victoria Tx. and were flying F-100`s. We lost 2 pilots while we were their both due to problems with J-57 engine from Pratt & Whitney.
