yes bikes need to be given a seperate path, just for the safety of the bike riders.

I heard an odd stat somewhere...that bike paths disconnected from roads lead to more bicycle deaths due to the fact that they once again connect to roads at one point, which usually surprises both the rider and the unsuspecting motorist.  i'm all for wider roads with a section painted off that 'belongs' to the cyclist.
