Watch as this locomotive (in tow) is being pulled back onto the tracks after being derailed at the PSRM train yard in Campo, CA.

  • can somebody explain the process?

  • There were blocks of wood stacked under the wheels such that the locomotive could be pulled up the wood and back onto the tracks. The locomotive was already attached to the switcher when it de-railed, and it was caught early on. The method that worked best was to back up the locomotive a little and then pull it (a slight running start). Sorry if my terms are not all correct.

  • Thanks for your explanation!

This may be dump question: Why does a train derails?

  • In this case there's a fairly rare (I'm told) piece of equipment there, a 3 way switch. The locomotive wanted to go straight, not around the curve, and it fell off.

  • Great recording! :)

  • Why wasn't a re-railing frog used. It is set against the rail, and then the loco is slowly back over it and up on to the rails.

  • @predatortheme - Wood didn't rerail the loco - people driving another loco and using wood under the wheels did.

  • How the... can WOOD! rerail a train?

  • @Amtrak1194 WOW. someone else owned that video? XD I LOVED watching that as a little boy. and I live only 45min from Camp, and have been there. sadly their museum is a LOT more strict now, I used to climb up and into the train cars. now everything is fenced off. Its a shame things are so "safe" now to avoid lawsuits. I love the Campo Railway Museum. but yeah...you just blew my mind with pointing that out.

  • @gayboytommy20010

  • @wirerail Nope. Poor mans rerailer is a stack of tie plates !!

  • @barbarotico yes it does. it also smashes heads pretty good as well from what i hear.

  • They make it look so easy

  • HEY, DOES THAT CRUSH FINGERS?
