The ADE 651 is a bogus, so-called bomb sniffing device that doesn't work. As I type this today, November 9, 2009, the Iraqi police and soldiers are using this device at check points all over their country. It seems to be nothing more than a small plastic box with an antenna-looking thing sticking from it. This is another, What's the Harm... This is nothing more than an expensive dowsing rod. The Iraqi government has spent millions, paying $18,500 to $60,000 each.
Yes. I heard of this story last hear and I cannot believe it has taken the UK government so long to stop its export. The ban on exports is only to Iraq and Afghanistan though. All those African countries are still buying it to detect mines and contraband, through a Hong Kong agency. That Iraqi general should undergo investigation (especially into his bank accounts to see how much of a kickback he has taken) as he must know that they are baloney. He is putting the lives of Iraqis in peril.

This story has come out in the UK today with the arrest of the manufacturer. 'What's the harm?' was exactly what I thought. I'm disgusted by this story. Jim McCormick should be, well, made to use his detector in a minefield.

Looking good now, old Jim has been arrested.

I love the way you slate the concept based on nothing more than your own narrow opinion, to say nothing of your cocky, know it all style.
Perhaps it is bogus, perhaps not.
Mining and exploration companies are the first to admit, that they get better results with a combination of sound geological survey and dowsing, than with geological survey alone.
Whether this detecting device works or not, don't attempt to debunk dowsing just because it doesn't suit your narrow perception of the world.
