Stravnisky's arrangement of our national anthem may have been 'controversial' to some people, but to other like me, it was so moving and powerful! Thanks for the upload!

@dondonp12004 LMAO if Stravinsky is controversial then the Boston and Jimi Hendrix versions must be BLASPHEMOUS!

@TheAdmiralPancake Whitney Houston's version at the '91 Super Bowl is the best. Hand's down!

Is that Stravinsky beat up and arrested in the picture??

What people fail to realize is that the National Anthem did not exist until 1931 and the music was borrowed from a 1700's English song. Until modern times, there was no "standard" rendition of the SBB and every composer arranged his own. If you look back through the decades, every version will be different until the advent of TV when people started to assume that there was only one correct way. Unfortunately, most are wrong.

@fredrobinson1955 the reharmonization of the star spangled banner is illegal.

I LOVE Stravinsky and not heard this before - maybe a little too much snare drum but a great arrangement nevertheless. I don't think it controversial at all. I mean Stravinsky IS Russina after all! Has Copland Gershwin Cage Ives or Bernstein ever arranged the Russian national anthem? Go and listen the Rite of Spring - it's the MASTERPIECE OF THE 20TH CENTURY!

@OscarGeronimo Copland didnt like romantic composers.
Copland liked stravinskys neoclassical period.
Jimi hendrix did an atonal version of the star spangelled banner.
FRANCIS SCOTT KEY WROTETHE STAR SPANGELLED BANNER.
there was a composer named walter sheets.
there was a composer named phil score.
there was a singer named lydia dorian.
there was a sax player named joe viola.
It's hard to say, mushroom man. But it does not look like a passport picture to me, as some people say.

Well, I'm not sure if he did or did not get fully arrested, though I don't think you get one of those pretty pictures unless they bust you, but I would disagree that he should have.
I was an arranger in the US Air Force for 15 years, so exposed to all sorts of patriotic music and different versions of the "Star-Spangled Banner" (I guess they slacked up on it by the 70's) and I have never heard a more beautiful rendition than Stravinsky's.
