Hardy Brown needs to be FAR higher on this list. Ed Sprinkle of the Bears needs to be up there too.

Man I hate those hits where DBs launch themselves off the ground to hit a receiver. I mean that's the perfect way of how NOT TO tackle in football. But DBs will do it for the highlight reel on ESPN. That kind of a hit should be result in instant ejections from the game. It results in horrible injuries, most likely a missed tackle and its not like it can happen by mistake either.

I have no problem with eliminating the cheap shots, the head-hunting, DBs launching head-first into defenseless receivers and bounties. But when defensive players are getting flagged for legit, textbook tackles just because the offensive player's head happened to dip down at the last second- causing a helmet-to-helmet moment, then that's not good change, that's bad change. I saw so many ridiculous "roughing the passer" calls and "helmet-to-helmet" calls in 2011 it was comical.

Actually both of you are wrong. You should read about how one of America's greatest Presidents Teddy Roosevelt had to step in to save football from being banned permanently. Any sport can change. The game cannot be made totally safe by definition, but it can evolve to eliminate the cheap shots and the MOTIVE to injure a person. The motive should be to stop the play, not to send the person to a hospital or worse.
