I'd had this joke in mind for years before filming this skit - and even though I'd felt very strongly that it was something I'd heard before, I could never place where it would have come from and assumed the possibility that it was an original gag.

As it turns out, yes - it's right out of the movie "Blind Date," which I saw once when I was just a kid. I guess it got lodged somewhere in the back of my head for years. So, call it an "homage" if you feel like being kind, but I clearly can't take credit for the idea.
