was the intro played on a trumpet?

@bear199214 Springsteen performs this song at every concert in America. You clearly do not understand what the song means and if you think Bruce is anything but a patriot you are dead wrong! He loves this country he just doesnt always agree with the politics.

I want that guitar :[

@bear199214 He does now, Back when the song first gained popularity though, he would only perform the accoustic version which sounds much differant.
-
He doesn't perform this song in America, you mean the U.S..?!!
What makes you think that?
This song is still on his setlist. And it's a good thing too.
He performed this song in 2009 at the Giant's concerts. I was there.
And btw most Americans do understand the message of this song.
We're not that ignorant !
-
why are men jealous of Bruce...answer,he is very good looking men can not handle that

This song is an accurate reflection of the feeling of the American people when it comes to our governments various policies. Bruce is expressing his opposition to the draft and war but he is still very proud to be an American. The people of our country are constantly disagreeing with each other and our government on policies yet at the same time you will not find a more patriotic group of people anywhere in the world!!

It's not that Americans don't get the song. It's just that Bruce knows that around the world, the song is misconstrued, so he only performs the song in the U.S.A. (and everywhere else, for that matter) if the current political climate fits its actual message. He performed it more often than not on the Rising Tour when the Iraq War was underway.
this is why he doesn't perform it in America. They clear don't understand the song.
