  • Was this a Dover or an actually TK because if it's a TK I'm surprised as I though interlocks were no standard on elevators. Moral of the story: never ride a TK.

  • this can be done with all brands of elevators Montgomery i think are more resistant to this but thyssens interlocks disengage alot sooner than most

the interlocks prevent the doors from opening when the elevator isnt there

  • Was the buzz really that low?

  • no the phone distorted the sound

  • @NEXPAR some elevators are like that when you pry the landing doors open even by a few millimetres. Once I did that to a 1985 Fujitec and the lift stopped halfway from its ascent from the basement floor where I was so I just let it go in case the malfunction alarm went off (very deafening for Fujitecs). Another time I did it to a 90s era Otis and instead of going up, the lift actually reversed its direction and travelled back downwards when I held the door open for quite a long time

  • pahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

  • This is 100% impossible on Otis lifts because instead of the clutch going beside the pick-up rollers, it goes between them (called the 6940 interlock set), making it impossible to do on Otis lifts. Also, it is bad to try on Schindlers as they jam EASILY.

  • Nope just work in maintenance. The janitor closet was next to the elevator so that is where I found it.

  • Were you a janitor?

  • I did that as a kid back in the 1970s with several different elevators. On one I tried it and the car went up and I was then able to open the doors and see the shaft. The car would stop wherever it was when I opened the doors.

  • I have had that happen to a dover here. The large metal bar that you see on the right cab door has to be pressed inward to clear a part of the hall door. I thought I broke it too when it happened but used the stick of a mop to press in the part which cleared the door. Luckily the building was closed so I had time to figure it all out.
