UNA ESTANCIA POCO APACIBLE.

Pese a que la momia de Lenin era objeto de veneración casi absoluta en tiempos soviéticos, su estancia en el mausoleo de la Plaza Roja ni siquiera entonces fue del todo apacible. En el mes de marzo de 1934, un campesino de un granja estatal identificado como Mitrofán Nikitin trató de disparar contra la momia y se suicidó cuando era reducido por los guardias.

En julio de 1941, poco después de la irrupción de las tropas nazis en territorio de la Unión Soviética, la momia fue trasladada en medio del más riguroso secreto a Tiumén, en Siberia Occidental, desde donde regresó a su mausoleo en la Plaza Roja sólo al término de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Entre 1953 y 1961, la momia de Lenin compartió el panteón con la de Iósif Stalin, de cuya compañía se deshizo gracias a las resoluciones del XX Congreso del Partido Comunista de la Unión Soviética, que condenó el culto a la personalidad de su antiguo líder. El cuerpo embalsamado de Stalin fue enterrado junto al mausoleo.
