  • It's cocopeat: shredded coconut husk. Not dirt. Dirt doesn't wick.

  • at 5:07 Ghana it shows red dirt being placed into a grow box, "potting soil" can not be red!

    They are using dirt !

  • That's not soil.

  • Notice the pics of Africa , the students were putting red soil and not potting mix into the grow box! It appears that soil can be used.

  • the potting mix is peat moss {and 20% perlite}, as it degrades it gets acidic. the lime will combat this. they use hydrated lime, but powdered dolomite lime is the way to go. super cheap too. 1tsp per gallon of soil/1cup cubic foot. a 5 gallon bucket with a hole drilled 2 inches up the side will do the same thing, dont need the 40 dollar earthbox :) 5parts canadian peat moss, 3 parts perlite 2 parts earthworm casting or compost. dont forget the lime!!!

  • These work great. Been using mine about 10 years now

  • Thanks for the viedo. I ommitted the dolomite, thinking my potting mix adequate. Next planting, I will be sure to include it.
