http://www.hamradiofinds.com This was the scene recently at Dave's place W5SV, just north of Austin, Tx., where a Hy-Gain LP-1010 14 Element Log Periodic ham radio antenna was raised onto a 70ft free standing tower, with the help of a crane..There is a 5 element Cushcraft 6 meter beam above the lp..We had quite an interesting time with this project..All went fine until one of the forward elements got tied up with the boom of the crane..No damage was done to the LP, though you can see where it is now out of alignment with the rest of the elements..Will have to use a crane with a bucket to repair problem..After the installation was completed, coaxes & rotor hooked up, SWR checked fine on all bands from 30 to 6 meters..

The crew consisted of Craig KB5BI ( in the blue shirt), our tower monkey Tim KE5CFZ & myself, Mel WA5UTK..Dave was somewhere in the background..

Thanks for viewing & reading..73s, Mel

  • Very,very interesting!!!

    Is this antennasystem yours?

    Í've never seen such a big antennasystem (I'm not a radio-amateur)

Respect for the guy on top of this tower!!

I think this will work super,it's a beauty to see!

  • Hello..Thank you for your comment..No the antenna is not mine, I just helped put it together..The antenna belongs to Dave W5SV who lives just north of Austin, Tx..The antenna is quite large..The longest element is 46ft, the boom is 36ft & the antenna weighs roughly 160lbs..It was an interesting project to say the least..Thanks again for viewing & commenting..73s, Mel

  • Too heavy OM....

  • Back in the day I worked at the Hy Gain factory in Lincoln, NE. I packaged quite a few antennas. Packaging for these monsters was all done by workers hand packaging everything. Probably little has changed. That was about 1977 and don't know much about these other than we had some huge ones and then some bigger ones. CB craze was dying. I was a kid taking orders so I know a lot about the military antennas I helped make and very little about these but it sure is nice to see them up and working.

  • @AlzbetaMadragana ...it's for ham radio only; nothingmore. Sorry, that kind of antenna won't help you.

  • Looks like the #5 director got cock-eyed, an easy fix?

  • That Hy-Gain LP-1010 looks like a MONSTER!

    Nice Work!

  • I talked to a guy using one of these once. He had a very strong signal and dug me out of the noise very nicely!
