With video 666 closer than I'd like, I've developed a taste for the dark lately. As a result, I've started this new series, showcasing, in my opinion, the scariest, most unpleasant and cruel bad endings in video games of all time.

Bad Endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world/city/etc, something had to happen that, at best, creates a bitter-sweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win after all your struggles. Sure, Game Overs CAN be scary too, but more often than not, all you'll get when you run out of lives is a simple "Game Over" message, possibly with the option to try again. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

  • Why didn't you make an episode about SoR/BK 1's bad endings?

  • @BusterBeetleX See episode # 6.

  • Aw, how come you have comments disabled on 3? I love that one, *shivers at Robotniks evilness* =D. Yeah..I never got past level 2 on that game x.x, wonder if I try out that I'd get farther.

  • @NeoAnimeKnight I got fed up with people saying "Um, that doesn't mean Tails is dead, it just means he's still missing and Sonic is still looking for him." Whether or not they're right, I didn't need to be told everyday. (Though I was probably actually more irritated by the ums. I'm touchy in strange ways)

  • umm not to be mean, but exactly what (wish i could italizise) scares you in these endings? i mean, its not like they really happend, and there are cartoon shows with worse endings than this for pete's sake! unless you have a very imaginative mind (or i could be an emotionless shell) and can put yourself in the game, i can't see what makes it so scary.

P.S. please don't start a flame war, i just want an answer.

  • @lilassyrian33 The music and the feeling of utter failure, probably. Also, I fail to see how a city being destroyed and hundreds of people dying isn't dark. There hasn't been a Streets of Rage game since this one, so there's been no further canon to prove it didn't end badly. (Though it probably didn't)

  • @ritmouse8 I second this :<

  • "Actually, I don't think I wanna know." I'm the opposite, I DO wanna know.

  • Have you checked out some of the endings to S.O.S, an obscure game on SNES? It has it fair share of bad endings...

  • kirby 64's bad ending creeps me out

  • @BusterBeetleX S'not really a creepy ending, is it?

  • @TheArgengold Creepy Bad Endings #16, it's already done for you.

  • I like her pantyhose.

  • @Crowley9 Oh, and to further fuel your nightmares, I think the Japanese version specifies that the bombs are nuclear, using a recently discovered new radioactive element.

  • I wonder if that map of the city that shows the bombs corresponds to any real-world location?
