Funny you mention Gimli and Safety Training.....
They still roll gliders through Gimli these days?

Wesley should have bought a lottery ticket! He's one incredibly lucky bastard not to have a single scratch on him

Vacuum brakes are an early type of braking system that was widely used in the UK. They use a steam induced vacuum to activate the brakes, as opposed to air pressure. I don't think vacuum braking has been used on revenue railways for at least 50 years.
Oh, this is Wes on the Nepi Sub in New Brunswick. Very famous throughout the Maritimes.

@tjmfishing There was a website devoted to him and his story, I used to have that in the video description, which went away when youtube changed their site design (again). Wes has gone to the great round-house in the sky, sadly. His health was never the same since the accident according to that website. Something about loss of memory, possible low-grade brain injury when he hit his head if I recall correctly. He was one brave guy tho.

@railroadradio Yes, I have read the story and heard the audio on that site many times before. My great uncle was killed in a head on collision as Point a la Garde Quebec 20 years before this.

@tjmfishing Sorry to hear about your G.U. Mine was killed in a rear-end collision on the CNW, he was riding in the caboose.
