The exciting conclusion to the CN runaway Ore train with resulting derailment which occurred back in 1987. Again the text added is my interpretation of the events for clarification for those not up on railroad slang and terminology. This second part was edited for length to keep below 10 min.s but only silence periods were removed. For a really excellent website that provides a transcript, photos, and background to this remarkable story, please visit:

  • Oh, this is Wes on the Nepi Sub in New Brunswick. Very famous throughout the Maritimes.

  • @tjmfishing There was a website devoted to him and his story, I used to have that in the video description, which went away when youtube changed their site design (again). Wes has gone to the great round-house in the sky, sadly. His health was never the same since the accident according to that website. Something about loss of memory, possible low-grade brain injury when he hit his head if I recall correctly. He was one brave guy tho.

  • @railroadradio Yes, I have read the story and heard the audio on that site many times before. My great uncle was killed in a head on collision as Point a la Garde Quebec 20 years before this.

  • @tjmfishing Sorry to hear about your G.U. Mine was killed in a rear-end collision on the CNW, he was riding in the caboose.

  • @railroadradio Meant to add never let it be said that railroading isn't a dangerous business!

  • OMG. I can't believe it. I wonder how the hogger is doing these days? This was unbelievable. thanks for posting.

  • @skottkoonz Sadly he passed away a few years back.

  • @raverboiph

Funny you mention Gimli and Safety Training.....

They still roll gliders through Gimli these days?

  • Wesley should have bought a lottery ticket! He's one incredibly lucky bastard not to have a single scratch on him

  • Wes passed away in Jan. of 1994.

  • Vacuum brakes are an early type of braking system that was widely used in the UK. They use a steam induced vacuum to activate the brakes, as opposed to air pressure. I don't think vacuum braking has been used on revenue railways for at least 50 years.
