With 'Modern' houses having large open spaces, rather than small rooms, it's often cheaper to demolish and rebuild rather than remodel. It's hard to find a plot of land outside of an HOA in many areas, so buying somthing older and demolishing it for the land that it sits on, is sadly very common... I wouldn't mind an old home with smaller rooms.

@flightmaster178 It's not like buying some ply wood and shingles are that expensive, if you have 100 bucks, then you can fix up roof, that's what I do with older houses when I renovate them.
