A simple, obscure, not very well done tone test comparing these 3 amps.

'80 JMP 2003, '74 Super Bass, '93 Mark IVB.

I'm playing my Jackson DKMG with actives. The Boogie and Super Bass are using the same cab, a 70s Marshall with 2 greenbacks and 2 65s. The JMP uses an 80s 1936 with 75s - I should've used the same cab for all but it's too bright with greenbacks.

I'm using a clean volume boost with the Super Bass. I'm just increasing the volume slightly which gives both more poweramp and preamp distortion.

The test is pretty loaded in favour of the Marshalls I guess as it's Oasis but I think the Boog holds its own very well. It doesn't sound quite a dark in person for some reason and the solo tone is great - if I could play properly!!

  • Could you name me a cheaper amp that can get me that awesome oasis sound that you got please ?

  • @jacklovesmanutd not sure what your budget is but a JCM 900 or 600 will get you there, Oasis used 900s live so that would definitely work :) If they are too expensive, maybe checkout a Marshall valvestate.

  • what's the song you're playing? all of these amps sound sweet, in their own way - 2203 is kinda to middy for my taste, but it would probably sound better with other cab. cheers!

  • @Wuodasz it's a badly played Supersonic by Oasis

  • ok i just read the description so it was somewhat fair but you did not use the mesa 5 band eq i personally think mesa boogie destroys marshalls when it comes to rock and metal just depends on the sound you want .marshalls are a treble midrange amp mesa's are mid to low end amp.

  • @hewonyew i just read the description never mind the last post

  • @hewonyew cmon man the mesa was with a 1x12 cabinet and it still had more low end

  • Not a fair comparison jmp with 2x12 74 super bass with 4x12 mesa mark iv with 1x12 cmon level the playing field do all heads through the 4x12 and the mesa will crush everything there but then again it all depends on what sound you want,

  • I think I prefer the super bass tone not as compressed or distorted but lots of punch and girth .I have a50watt JMP bass head and a dual rectifier so I may just be partial to the super bass tone

  • I think I prefer the super bass tone not as compressed or distorted but lots of punch and girth
