This is a video of a spider crab molting. Molting is the process in which animals cast off body parts such as hair, skin, or shells. In this case of this spider crab, it's molting its external shell (i.e. exoskeleton) which is important to the growth process of this animal.

Time has been compressed for viewing purposes, this footage was originally 40 minutes long.

Filmed on exhibit in the Northern Pacific Gallery at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California.
