That's exactly how those PCC's sounded as they rounded the sharp curve of the subway surface loop under city hall at 13th. and Market in Philadelphia. They also moved at that speed to. They replaced the PCC'S on the surface lines in1980 after purchasing those ugly Kawasaki's. Car 2709 in this video is sporting Septa's red, white and blue color scheme from the mid 80's to present.

How old do you have to be to volunteer, is there competition to run the trolleys or are there plenty of openings. Man that looks like fun

I wish to heck you could take the train from Philadelphia to the southern New Jersey shore points. It was a great service but ended in the '80's and '80's.

You need to go to training classes in the spring. Then when you get signed off on certain cars..the dispatcher of the day will assign you on your trips.

I'm planning on volunteering up there this year. How do you get to assigned to operate which car and are they all different in operation or very similar?

This year (2008) all operators have to qualify on a straight air car, 631 (Third Ave. Railway) and this SEPTA PCC 2709. Good luck, you will enjoy it.
