This is video of the issue I'm having with my Rancilio Silvia Espresso machine. I make an even puck, under the fill line in my double-shot basket, tamped with 30 pounds of pressure. This used to work fine. I grind with my Rocky grinder at 8. Coarser makes the flow too fast and finer chokes the machine. I lock in the portafilter firmly but not overly tight. I am using a new gasket too. What can I do to fix this? If there's somewhere near NYC, I can bring it there too.
On my new machine had that same problem. Lock the portafilter tight, seeing as you plan on replacing the gasket anyway may as well make it travel the distance ;)

Its the gasket, you can tell because the portafilter isnt square on to front of machine, its on angle. i had same problem and fixdd it with a new gasket.

I have the same issue (different machine, but same leaks). I have replaced the gasket, and back flushed my machine to clean out any residue. I found the only thing that helps is to change your grind setting. 8 seems a bit too fine and when you pack it tight it leads to the over-spill. Try going to 9 or 9.5 and applying the same pressure when tamping. Also, the beans make a difference as well, try a different type of roast/freshness and play with the grind setting as well. Its a labor of love.
