Adrienne Campbell of Dearborn, MI, was diagnosed with cervical cancer at age 22. Her insurer denied coverage for a highly suspect legal reason. Ms. Campbell went $8,000 in debt to cover the cost of her treatment. At age 26, and uninsured, she developed ovarian cancer. Currently, at age 27, shes over $10,000 in debt, but, mercifully, cancer free. At a rally on Capitol Hill, on May 13, 2009, in support of a Single Payer Healthcare system, Ms. Campbell said: "I'm angry that these politicians, (read member of the U.S. Congress), get their health care handed to them on a silver platter, courtesy of our tax dollars. I want the same high quality of health care for me, my family and every single American." Ms. Campbell is supporting HR 676 and S 703. Meanwhile, on May 5, 2009, Single Payer advocates, were barred from having their voices heard by the Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT). Only the "Fat Cats" from the HMOs, Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industries were welcomed at his table. In fact, eight activists, "The Baucus Eight", were arrested for challenging the rigged system. • No. She'd still be alive and not bankrupt if she lived in Europe.

  • I'm from Canada. No matter what scare tactics U.S. politicians use to warn against our system I would never consider trading health care with the U.S.

I would not be eligible for private insurance in the U.S. In the last 2 months because of a fall I had a broken rib, punctured lung, and dislocated knee. The treatment including hospital stay, surgery, etc. was immediate, high quality and cost me nothing. In the U.S. I'd be financially ruined because of a fall off a ladder.

  • Those rotten assholes. FIX THE BULLSHIT system NOW! This is disgusting how our fellow man can't be taken care of! Sickening!

  • I don't see how whovian got top comment; a terrible comment. Lady had terrible luck getting stuck with debts over cancer; had the nerve to call her a f prick. Would whovian be okay if he got forced into financial ruin over medical debts? I sure wouldn't trust him with a gun.

Even if I have opposed single payer I could not condone that terrible comment.

  • @harneyjt you mean like the politicians she is talking about who vote against health insurance reform and who have government health insurance have a job right ? Is that what you mean ?

  • They don't want to help us. I just got a hospital bill for $5,000 just so they could tell me what they THINIK is wrong. Something needs to be done, but the Government doesn't need to get in our way, they need to get OUT of our way.

  • I agree that something needs to be done about the Insurance Companies, but Mandating that we Purchase Insurance and telling the companies how to operate is NOT the way to do it. Why can't we buy insurance from another state? That would really help to lower costs. The Insurance Companies are working with our Politicians to Control Us.

  • I agree the health care is a sham, This woman needs to learn how not to keep making cancer before she goes broke for a third time or loses another body part. It's more about getting a healthy immune system by putting the right nutrition into your body. Do a search for Dr Thomas Lodi how to stop making cancer or watch the DVD "Curing cancer from the inside"

  • take the fu*king profit out of health care the right to life is God given and should be assuered by the constitution, why isn't it? Because some weezil wants to make a profit?

  • right on lady !

  • US if this ladies story is correct ,every one of you should be ashamed. How a country (one that in the past I have always had the deepest respect) be so backward in the way it treats its citizens .This lovely lady and tens upon thousands of your fellow citizens are going through hell because you think universal health care is socialist it's not,its good manners.Your bigotry makes you no better than the Taliban, you are supposed to care about your neighbour. HARNEYJT/NYZNICCA -YOU HAVE NO SHAME.

  • You think you're going to get more services faster when the government runs healthcare? Good luck with your 'hope and change',
