The London Metropolitan Police broke health and safety laws in the fatal shooting of an innocent Brazilian electrician who was mistaken for a suicide bomber on a subway car, a jury in Britain ruled Thursday.
Jean-Charles de Menezes, 27, was shot in the head seven times at Stockwell station on July 22, 2005, two weeks after near-simultaneous explosions during the morning rush hour killed 52 people and four suicide bombers in London, and just a day after a second suicide bombing attempt on the city's subway system.
During the trial, prosecutor Clare Montgomery said the 'fundamental failures' of a police surveillance team led to the endangerment of the public and de Menezes's death.
The jury said Thursday that the police force put the public at unnecessary risk, but ruled the commander of the surveillance unit, deputy assistant commissioner Cressida Dick, bore 'no personal culpability' in the incident, the BBC reported.

  • when will people in this fucking country wake up. the government said first he was wearing a ruck sack, when that was proven untrue, they said he was wearing a thick padded jacket, then that was disproven, then they said he was running , that was alos a lie, they also denied that camera footage of him in the station existed, and it does exist. then they said they identified themselves as armed police, now all the witnesses deny the police's claim, there was no warning just MURDEr COVER UP

  • "carry on from underneath" conflicts with all the witness statements. How can a fair inquest be held when the fucking coroner instructs the jury on their opinion...jean charles was murdered on purpose for reasons the government are not sharing. the jury should have walked out and refused to continue because of trial fixing and corruption by the etablishment. this inquest is a fucking joke and an insult to the heartbroken family in brazil and to the concept of british justice and to the british

  • You guys are pointing the finger at the wrong people. The intel officers who gave the wrong information are the ones to blame, not the firearms officers. If he was a terrorist, they would be heroes. It's not fair for anyone to blame them, imagine what they must be living with for the rest of their lives. To call them murderers is just plain wrong, they did what they were supposed to do. Punish the ones who failed to do theirs, their mistakes cost this man his life.

  • frustrated white devils in action

  • "ALL MURDERERS GO TO HELL"!!!!! (INCLUDING Tony bLIAR)

  • Hey, Iain Duncan Smith, if the coppers who killed him had instead decided to spend their lives harmlessly dossing then the guy might still be alive. And they would probably make just as crap gardeners or litter pickers.

  • l;ivin on a pension in florida now

  • Career cops ,no doubt thet they are retired now .due to stress n livin in florida on a nice fat pension.

  • Start shooting them, see how they like it

  • @hypnomagick

I think if you are hell bent on blaming someone, then blame the officer who gave the order. The one who told the fire arm team that he defiantly was a suicide bomber, whereas the surveillance team had said they were unsure.

  • @Trustisaliability This can go on forever. my point is that This is a mistake that if any other police force in the world would have made it would have been judged as incompetent. The problem is that accepting to be incompetent is too much for you people. but I insist that your police was incompetent on that occasion. period. In fact we havent had another attack in the Uk since 7-7.
