@cjmaldrich what he may be saying is that God in his sovereign state and power of being GOD directed the scenario as pagan or political as it may have been or assumed today to his sole purpose and masterfully arrange it to have only the letters and writings of HIS choice in a single book, we can add if wanted that it was said ¨the Lord works in misterious ways¨, men will pervert anything, could God not have the power to influenced his Word to maintain intact? can man outsmart God?

How was the Bible brought together? By men trying to give people structure, and to make them conform to the ways of the church.
I think it's mentally lazy and actually weak, cowardly perhaps, to follow any organized religion.

The Books of the NT were recognised as authoritative because they were handed down from the age of the Apostles. It was the authority of the Apostles which in turn established the authority of the NT books. The Early Church led by the Early Church Fathers, read these books in there daily religious services. There are lists of scriptures from the 2nd & 3rd centuries. The 7 books of the OT which were expunged by the Reformation were never in question in the Christian Traditon.

"Why don't so many people today use this same method? The mormons do"
You speak a half truth. The Churches of Christ get their authority to act through the "Power" (authority) of the Holy Ghost, but not through a small group of old men, instead through the GIfts of the Holy Ghost that are distributed by the Holy Ghost to individual members of Christ's Churches.

Wait... I'm confused... Is Shawn trying to say here that the Bible was put together in an inspired manner, like through prophets? Or is he saying that it was put together by men who just made some criteria (good as it may be) by which to judge various books?
If prophets after Jesus did not exist, and no man can receive revelation to this extreme other than a prophet... How is it possible that the men who put the Bible together were inspired?

I think Mormons, like Jehovah's Witnesses, believe the Holy Spirit is some kind of unconcious force, not God.

Why doesn't the BOM contain the "fullness of the gospel"? (This is contained in the D&C)which has been heavily modified from it's first version
-
Plus they tested and compared them to other books to verify. So there was allot of verification done on them to prove them correct and relevant. Do Mormons hold there books under the same testing? No!
