  • I met him around 1968. Two friends and I were the only customers in a bar/country dance hall in Wichita Falls, Texas. We were underage. Dan and three of his friends came in and sat down and one of his friends came over and said Dan would like us to join them. Of course we did. They were on their way from Florida to California. Stayed abut thirty minutes. I can tell you that he was as nice in real life as he appeared on Bonanza. I don't claim to be a friend of his. Just had a lucky encounter.

  • Thank you very much for sharing you encouter with Dan!! :)

  • So sad he died so you young. A jewel of mankind with a ton of heart.

  • Was going through some old posts to clean up my computer and found this one. And yeah, I have never forgotten the lucky encounter. We were scared to death at meeting him. But he was the nicest person you would ever want to meet. He talked to us like were old friends and made us feel completely at ease after just a minute or two. And he really was just like Hoss. Friendly and loveable and had a great sense of humor. You really would have liked him. I'm blessed that I got to meet him.

  • THANKS DAN BLOCKER FOR MAKING MY EARLY T V EXCITING WITH THE BONANZA SHOW, AS A KID I LOVED THE SHOW ,WONDER WHY THE GOOD DIE SO YOUNG,,BUT ATLEAST THOSE MEMORIES ARE LIKE STONE,,, THEY LAST FOREVER,

  • My family mourned upon his passing. The Cartwrights were like a part of the family.

  • with the death of pernell robertsthe origional 4 cartwrights are all gone now .loved watching this show as a kid and watch them almost every day on tv land.dan was my favorite

  • Hoss was absolutely the kingpin of the "Bonanza" series. The gentle giant who could bring it when needed to help or protect his family or friends!!

  • Great video Daisy !!!

  • I never had the honor of meeting him, but you could somehow tell from watching his portrayal on "Bonanza" that he embodied the characteristics of "Hoss" Cartwright, a rugged, but humble and caring individual...I was 14 years old when he died, I remember finding out thru a story in our local paper, I took his death real hard, hard enough to stop watching the series when NBC carried it at the time. To me, he was irreplaceable, the most endearing of all the Cartwrights.

    Beautiful story, Rikki...

  • great video
