Chapter 9
**w/Alyse**
A: Deanna, Im telling you, I didnt reject him! [She slammed the fridge door shut to emphasize her point.]
D: And Im telling you, you totally shut him down. The boy was flirting beyond belief and all you did was sit there and chug the entire contents of your water bottle.
A: He wasnt flirting he was being nice and so was I. How could I "shut him down" [She used airquotes] if he wasnt flirting to begin with?!
D: Maybe tomorrow Ill record it, that is if the boy has enough self-esteem left to try again.
A: Ugh! Why cant you just drop it?
D: Because. You havent even looked at a guy since we got here, and I know youre really trying to focus, but honestly hon you cant just sit around by the phone all day waiting for him to call!
A: Who? I dont know what youre talking about. [She went to a cupboard to get a cup so her face was hidden from Deanna.]
D: You know perfectly well who Im talking about. Nick. You havent smiled since you last talked to him a week ago. As much as I want to help, maybe you just have to face the facts; maybe hes moved on. He certaintly gave you enough time to let him know how you feel.
[Alyse whipped back around to face Deanna, her expression furious.]
A: And I gave him plenty of time to let me know, too, so if youre right, and I waited too long, Im not the only one to blame. And I am not waiting by the phone. Here [She slammed her cell phone on the table in front of Deanna.] You can have it. Im going to take a shower. [She stormed off, and Deanna heard the bathroom door slam shut. She sighed; she hadnt meant to make her upset, and it had all started with some helpless teasing. She hoped a shower would help cool her down.
Just as she heard the shower turn on, Alyses phone rang. Deanna recognized the ringtone as one of the Jonas's; if it was Nicks, she wasnt sure.]
D: Of course they wait to call when shes in the shower. [She said to herself as she picked up the phone.] Hello?
??: Hey, this is Joe. Whos this?
D: Hi Joe, its Deanna.
J: Oh, hey Deanna. Is Alyse there?
D: Um, shes a little indisposed right now. Youve got pretty sucky timing, especially since shes been waiting to hear from you
J: Are you sure youre not confusing me with Nick?
D: Haha well preferably shes been wanting to talk to Nick, but I think hearing from any of you would reassure her that you guys havent fallen off the face of the earth
J: Wow, its that bad?
D: Totally. She wont admit that its cuz of that, but shes been in such a bad mood lately, and I know her too well. This guy was openly flirting with her today and she just blew him off, not even a smile.
J: Well Im sure Nick would be happy to hear about that haha but-
D: But he hasnt called her in a week and shes miserable because of him!
J: Youre right, Ill talk to him
D: Thats all I ask. Thanks Joe
J: Sure thing

[After Joe had hung up, he decided to go talk to Nick right away. He found him in his bunk, listening to music. He was facing towards the wall, so he didnt see Joe until he began to climb in with him. Nick sat up to make room.]
N: Umm..can I help you?
J: Why havent you called Alyse in a week?
N: I..how do you know that?
J: I asked first.
N: Joe.
J: Nicholas.
N: Joseph Adam.
J: Nicholas Jerry Jonas, little brother, secret lover of Alyse Oapleson-
N: Ok, ok, just shut up. [He quickly poked his head out of the bunk to make sure the bus was empty, then closed the curtain with a sigh.] We kind of had a fight.
J: Gasp! About what? {AN-yes, he actually said "gasp." I do it all the time lol}
N: She wanted to fly down to see the show last weekend. [He shrugged like that explained everything.]
J: And . . .
N: Well she that was her only weekend off in like a month, and she kept saying how tired she was. I couldnt let her waste two days to come see me when she should be resting.
J: She didnt see it that way, right?
N: No. She said she missed me and if she wanted to come see me she would do it, but I kept telling her not to, and we havent spoken since.
J: So why dont you call her?
N: I dont know, it just seems easier than facing it.
J: But you know the longer you wait, the worse it will be. [Joe advised as he climbed back out of the bunk, leaving Nick wondering if Joe realized the doubling meaning behind his words.
Maybe only Nick knew that the longer he waited to confess his feelings for Alyse, the better the chances were that she would find someone else.]
