Polly Tommey, founder of The Autism Trust (www.theautismtrust.org.uk) and Editor-in-Chief of The Autism File (www.autismfile.com) appeared on GMTV on Wednesday 3rd March to discuss the release of 'The strategy for adults with autism in England (2010)'. Polly Tommey is regarded as one of the leading figures in autism in the UK, as a campaigning and influential journalist, and a sector expert in the media. In 2009 her "Dear Gordon Brown..." billboard campaign culminated in meeting with the Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Downing Street. The meeting was instrumental in the government's move towards helping those with autism and on 3rd March 2010 the government released its new strategy to help adults with autism in England.

  • @ajshields Very good comment. Thanks

  • @FitchJane19 Just as you said, her daughter. Children have a mind of their own. The parents can only do so much and children know how to keep certain things from parents. My two brothers were smoking at a tender age of 12, but father only knew about it when they were about 25. Can't we just forcus on the good work she is doing and leave her private life for her to sort?

  • Thank you 'FitchJane19' but your facts are completely wrong. My daughter has never been excluded from any school.

  • Find it very hard to find Miss Polly Tommey a good role model when she allows her preteen daughter to drink and smoke so much so she gets excluded from her private school when they find vodka in her bag.

  • a strong person

  • If you do not vaccinate children, eventually enough together in schools etc will surely cause epidemics. There may be deaths. It is painfully obvious.

Tommey had nothing to do with the Autism Strategy. She was neither invited nor included. She is a vaccine conspiracy theorist. Greyeyedgoddesss43 is totally right. I do not even hide my name over this. She is part of a small cult encouraging parents not to vaccinate. Tick tick.

  • One wonders if GMTV did their research after agreeing to give Polly Tommey airtime. She pays lip service to the Autism community while advocating anti vaccine/cure rhetoric.

She has clear affiliations to the discredited Andrew Wakefield & actively encourages parents to shun vaccines. A spectacular own goal by GMTV which demonstrates sub standard research staff at the now defunct morning programme. Let hope Daybreak is more responsible!

  • excellent!

  • Well done, Polly! Fantastic woman - she is the Editor-in-Chief of The Autism File - which is the BEST magazine I have ever subscribed to - I have learnt so much about my son's condition and it is thanks to people like Polly that the world is gradually becoming a nicer place for those with autism :))))

  • Such a strong beautiful woman to have pulled this off. A very good start.
