  • One comment below refers to GWML electrification. Given that the trains that would use these wires do not yet exist, will you place the wires at a suitable height to permit the long-term use of double-deck trains, and why not more generous in size than in Europe? The ease of conveyance of container freight is a further consideration.

After the GWML, can you think about OHLE in the southern region? We've had a terrible time with third rails and snow.

  • Amazing idea! If America wants High Speed Rail, this is the perfect train to put up the wires. Even if you're a British company, I think you should present this idea to the Federal Railroad Administration. They might love the idea of a train that installs wires that power tomorrow's American high speed trains. That is better than having a bunch of (non-rail) construction vehicles to do the job.

  • They put the H-beam in the wrong way round at 1:52!

That aside its interesting to see how the techniques differ from that used in the 1960s. The machines look a lot more advanced now, with the whole process being much condesed! Good luck and highest regards to all involved with the new GWML electrification programme!

  • whAT A MACHINE AMAZING BEAST

  • I have worked on the TRT, but this is even more impressive.

  • very clever cant wait to see the real thing

  • Wow! Fantastic! Im liking this idea, looks so simple, and quick. Can't wait to see what these turn out to be like! Well done Network Rail

  • interesting. is this the technique that's going to be used to electrify the GWML?

  • Yes. Its a new unit designed to be able to put catenary wires etc up in a Flash (no pun intended)
