My Beagle and I are just going for our evening walk. (Today, it's between 17.5 & 21 degrees out, calm with a lite breeze) I decided to make videos of our nightly walk, to show other dog owners that it's worth it to get your dogs out for daily exercise. You only need to go for a short walk, especially when it's cold out. When I show up to train other peoples' dogs, one of the main issues I see is a lack of proper exercise. I understand that it seems like a catch 22, if they could control their dog, they would walk them more often. If I don't take my dogs out for exercise every single day (out of the back yard, which is where they go potty, to sniff and explore), they will pace, start whinning by the door, bring me toy after toy to play with, and run to the door every time I stand up. I also understand that some days it is way to cold to go for a walk, on those days it's a good idea to either go in the front yard and play fetch for just a few minutes (even 2 mins.), tag (if your dog knows how to play), or go to a indoor place that is dog friendly or pet store. Remember, you get to do and go where ever you want to when you want to, but your dog/s only get to go where you take them. Please consider how you would feel or act, if you switched places with your dog/s. How would you feel if you only got out, in your back yard to go potty, and rarely get to go for even a short walk? You would have all sorts of issues, behavior and other. Think of all the pent-up energy your dog has, which can not all be released in just one walk, but daily walks will help (at least then your dog has something to look forward to every day). We all must be reminded, that our dogs are very social animals, and very important members of our families. And it is our job as dog owners to properly socialize our dogs (which actually does take getting out in public, ie., getting your dog out of the house and in public), especially so they know how we expect them to act in public. So I just wanted to show you, that even in weather that isn't perfect, you can exercise your dog, which many times stops issues from happening. So PLEASE get your dog out of the house (even for just a few minutes every day), to at least keep them current on social skills.
