I uploaded this for a friend who is helping me with this adventure, but it requires a bit of an explanation for everyone else, so TL;DR explanation ahead. Also, I would like to apologize for some of the delayed audio, which is actually Spore's fault and not mine. (I have to make my video capture program work eventually)

Some of my friends and I on a daily chat will often come up with stories together, and on the subject of Spyro throughout the years, we have come up with hypothetical ideas of what a game, made by Insomniac or at least a good Insomniac imitation, after Year of the Dragon would have been like. (ignoring that ETD, AHT and so on were part of the timeline if they ever were)

We actually tried to fit Cynder into the Insomniac universe during these ideas, and, in the spirit of the first Spyro game, we made up an entire world and breed of dragon that would suit her, called "Fear Reapers." The world is dark and creepy and some of the more peaceful monsters are the gargoyles, black sheep, skeleton dogs etc. (though there are rogue gargoyles who are enemies)

The dragon inhabitants in this world are responsible for creating and maintaining the darker, but very important things in life, such as fear and death. They only have a single breath, which is shadow breath, and they are born with one out of two abilities at random. So basically there are two types of Fear Reaper dragons. In Cynder's case, she is a shadow manipulator, who can manipulate all sorts of shadows (even her own) to do such things as morph, animate or swarm other creatures. An example is in this image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/Kazooie64/My%20Art/Spyro/InsCynderexam... The second type of ability is necromancy- self-explanatory. Basically, we came up with the idea that each dragon breed has its own breath and abilities, except for the Artisans, who don't have a particular ability but are capable of learning all breaths.

The Cynder seen in this video isn't per say, the Cynder from Legend of Spyro games, just a different character in spirit made for the Insomniac universe. Her personality and background are completely different. (Try to see it as differentiating between the Insomniac Spyro and the LoS Spyro also.) Although yes, the Spyro in this video is supposed to be the Spyro from the first three Insomniac games. Normally you would control Spyro here, but I thought it'd be interesting to make it from Cynder's point of view in this version.

Anyway, the point is, when Galactic Adventures was released I decided it would be fun to try and make an adventure based on these ideas.

Now, this video is only to demonstrate how I try to work in the fighting. Since it isn't exactly easy (or effective) to make it in the style of the Insomniac games, I experimented with the Spore battle style and health + attack damage to actually make it strategy-based and not a bunch of button mashing. For instance, as seen here, going airborne whenever possible to avoid the bigger attacks is a good idea, especially to perform a shadow/swarm attack without interruption, but staying airborne for too long is also bad, since the Patches (wolf things) aren't stupid and will spit you to death. Standing still and pressing attacks will not help for very long, since you will be gang raped by the Patches in no time. Using your shadow/swarm attack to fend off the Patches one at a time is also a good tactic, as is going for the Patches that Spyro isn't attacking so you can kill one while Spyro keeps the other busy by freezing it. As you'll notice, there's also green gems around for health. It may seem a bit easy in this video but I had some difficult moments. (As you can see by me going for the gems a few times :( ) Anyway, my friend will help me decide whether it's too many Patches or whatever else, since in this video you have to kill ten and survive to win.

Also, this shows very little in comparison to how the rest of the adventure is going. Like I said, this only shows the battle and attack system. Beyond the gates seen in the video a few times, there is a huge castle filled with rooms, effects and gargoyle servants (Cynder has her own room which you start the adventure from) I built which you spend like three acts trying to escape from the inside. In fact, it took like 90% of the complexity meter, and I didn't even finish it. : I So I am basically waiting around for a complexity hack or cheat to hopefully come out so I can finish it. I'd like a "more acts" hack too, but that isn't as important as bypassing complexity. If it wasn't for the fact that I nearly ran out of complexity also, this whole thing would have taken place in a graveyard.

Fun facts: if you look very closely a few times, you'll notice that, thanks to a wonderful hack, Spyro breathes fire in place of biting. (not to be confused with fireball spitting, which Spyro loves spamming) Also there is a tiny Sparx that follows him around.

  • can you make a timer so the other characters move later?

  • You can, though unfortunately like the rest of Galactic Adventures, it's controlled by acts. (which you only get 8 of) So basically you have to use two acts, set up the first act to be timed and have the character you want idle for that act, then set up the same character in the second act to move as you want. When the timer runs out in the first act, a new act will start and the character will start moving.

  • oh wow interesting one and it does look creepy place and i like song on this place and looks

    challenging great job +5

  • Thanks for the feedback on the atmosphere of the level. I argued with my friends for a long time on this because we couldn't agree on what shrubbery to use and what color and time of the day the sky should look like. It was hell. :I I still don't really know if I want those trees in the end, but glad to hear it does look creepy.

I just wish I could add more things to make it look better, like that graveyard, and some bones around, but that complexity meter...!!!! *shakes fist*
