Race cam as we know it , started in 1979 when Channel 7 beamed live pictures from the Peter Williamson Toyota Celica during the great race. However in 1973 Screen sound Australia Mounted a 16mm movie camera into a HQ holden and caught the following excellent footage.

  • Priceless film. These cars and drivers will be remembered long after those plastic V8 supercar shitboxes piloted by the sons off rich daddys are forgotten!

  • wow very cool

  • man this is true essence stunning not this total snot of today get rid of that joke chase please bring back the real deal

  • check the body roll truly priceless footage u now that poor camera man probly wasnt even strapped in and the monstrosity camera it would have to man handle tru heros not like this total soft cock shit now

  • @stuing well said

  • the shot at 19secs is enough to make any holden driver need a change of underwear

  • Looks like the camera was in a HQ can you confirm

  • I agree Stuing, The chase is way more dangerous than the straight I have seen some horrible roll overs and one death there But its not about making the racing more exciting anymore only more money

  • Oh PLEASE, PLEASE will someone in CAMS or whoever runs the race these days get some balls and get rid of that ridiculous chase and let Conrod Straight be Conrod straight. The braking duals into Murrays were legendary. I can remember Gricey making up 3 or 4 spots under brakes there after those top end runs and who can remember Moffats HO vs Brocky and Bonds XU1s? Now THAT WAS RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMEN and THANKYOU LINESMAN, THANKYOU BALLBOYS!

  • ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow its amazing how the track looks so different in the earlier days...it actualy looks like a country road..which it was..

  • Brilliant film! My Dad went to Bathurst in 73, 77, 81 and 83 (from NZ) and he has some amazing photos of it all. I am am hoping to get to it in the next few years.
