Giant Clam (Tridacna gigas) - Reef Reality Episode 8

The giant clam, known traditionally as pa'ua, is the largest living bivalve mollusk. These animals can weigh in excess of 200kg and grow to 1.2 metres. They have calcium carbonate shells consisting of two rounded plates called valves joined at one edge by a flexible ligament called the hinge. Giant clams have a lifespan of more than 100 years.

  • do they taste good?

  • 100 years without moving? how boring a clam can be without moving./

  • nice vid,

  • @rattyfatty246 -Giant Clams should run for political office or get a job in the New World Disorder as all they'd have to do is sit there & suck all day.

  • Very nice video.

Slight inaccuracy though: they can grow to 1.37 meters tall, 14% taller, that's the world size record.

  • Wow those hundred years they lived must be so boring just sits on the sea bed all day.

  • live more than 100 years o.O
