Hell, John Fogerty got sued by Saul Santz for plagerizing...himself!!! So, really, how important is this plagerism issue - especially since every song in question was born before me (pre-1960), years before Zeppelin got ledded.

Most of these songs were in the Public Domain and 1) available for anyone to reuse and 2) a lot of other bands at that time were also recording these songs and 3) none of the songs are at all the same composationally as the music Page and Jones put behind Zep's versions.
Get over the plagerism. You don't like Zeppelin. That's cool.

Whole Lotta Love and Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You are the only songs in which the legal owners were known (afterwards), and were compensated. On the other hand, Zeppelin was sued by the publishing company after trying to ensure that Ritchie Valens' mother received royalties for "Boogie With Stu," which is a reworking of Valens' "Ooh My Head." They listed the four members of Zeppelin and "Mrs. Valens" in the credits, only to be sued by the publishing company. What you haven't said is...

James Brown, there are a few songs where Plant picked lyrics from this old blues song or that...The reason this is mostly NOT plagerism is because almost all examples involved songs in which no legally recognized author exists. The songs in question were old blues songs that were sung/recorded by various bluesmen as far back as the 20's, and none claimed ownership or had legal rights.

You are quite right, However, the tragedy I meant was his later drug habit that curtailed his talent and shortened his life.
After Zep, he had nowhere to go, but he still had family that loved him...

He was born outside of marriage and knew little of his father. That is now quite commonplace, it is not much of a tragedy. He might have had a happy childhood compared to many other kids of his generation.

God knows what the yanks thought of a fat and arrogant Englishman talking to them like that. I would support every word he said, but not in that ignorant way.
