The video game industry comes under the microscope as Game Theory with Scott Steinberg takes a detailed look at the current state of game development and publishing, including how just how cutthroat today's market has become. Here, gaming's biggest names from Peter Molyneux to David Perry debate the changing nature of the business, whether there's still room for indie game studios and the tenuous balance of power. If you work in the industry, or have ever dreamed of making your own video game, don't miss it.

  • ... sorry, is this a campaign to dissuade industry newcomers from even giving a try at making games ? Sounded very negative to me compared to everything else I've heard over the past few years (and I've read and heard a lot on the topic).

  • And this is why i love Valve. They are so laid back because they have everything they could possibly want under control. They take risks with every game they make, and they strike big with every game they make! Over the last year indie games have become much more public (probably thanks to the efforts of valve with steam) and making it big as an indie dev isnt even that hard anymore. Just look at minecraft.

  • It does not seem like much actual game theory is being disused.

  • All of these fuckers are retarded. they have a whole internet to tell people come and look at our game. and they dont understand how to make a simple youtube video or advertise on google. its not fucking hard. and it would be cheaper actually than letting fucking money grubbing Publishers tell you how to make your game and take money for your hard work.

  • Cod sucks

  • My partner has just signed up to Train2game. I wish he had stuck to music as this is where his talent is. Watching some of these videos I cannot see him getting a job in creating games at the end of it. Anyone done Train2game and have a UK job?

  • I think Valve has a huge influence on how the game industry evolves. They are their own publishers, marketers and distributors with the Steam platform. Plus they strike deals for smaller game developers to really help them out with promotion of their game. Big game publishers and console manufacturers prey on the powerless developers while Valve helps them flourish.

  • @sordinof He said "deep"

  • Interesting video, my thoughts are that if a game studio makes a refined and quality title that is and worth playing, it will sell itself. How else do you think the cod series became so popular. They used to be really good, a change of pace from what they had experienced before. This culminated and reached a peak in cod 4, and after that it went to shit. It depends what kind of game your making, but these games don't sell so well beacause they just copies of what has already come before.

  • Good, but way too fast. SLOW DOWN YOUR EDITING!!! what is the point of flying through all the content without having time to process it. The show is good but the artificial 10min time limit is holding it back. Slow down and i reckon you might have a good show on your hands!!!
