re The Sopranos and some gangster movies its a strange situation. On the one hand some of it is really entertaining and I enjoy watching the movies for what they are. On the other it bothers me that these depictions are like 99% of how italians & italian-americans are portrayed. If only the representations were more diverse and real, the occasional mob movie wouldnt be so bad. But as the only depiction, its depressing.
Yes. I understand Angela. Though I'm English by descent I was raised around many Italian American families and the mayhew in those families was so different from my experience as a generational New Englander.
But when my adult Ital. American friends began singing the praises of the Sopranos I told them; "were that my nationality I'd be offended beyond anything".
(I agree with you about the south here in the States)
