This can only be described as hauntingly beautiful, as a solo, unembellished (no doubletracking, echo or any other processing) mezzo soprano literally resonates against a simple acoustic guitar background. Result? The best love ballad she EVER recorded. The fact it has never been included in any of the Disney-produced Annette compilations released in the last two decades is a crime - and suggests just how oblivious that company has become to the real treasure sitting in its archives.

ncatt, thanks so very much for posting this. I have been searching for it for a long time, but didn't find it as it's listed as Softly Your Love rather than Because You're You. I also prefer this version more than the duet of it she did with Frankie Avalon. A beautuful girl with a lovely voice. Thanks again ncatt

Nice...There is a version of this she sings with Frankie A. and it's titled "Because You're You''. Could you verify the correct title..I think her solo version is better..Thanks for posting this.

i certainly agree with johnnygnv. annette's recordings fully deserve the reissue treatment. most of these songs transcend their supposed "camp" appeal through the sincerity of ms. funicello's vocal performance. i can still remember purchasing the rhino reissues (on vinyl) back in the early 80's. the hipper-than-thou clerk shot me a look as if to ask, "why would you spend money on this?" well, doofus, if you don't know now, you never will.
