Bawu woodwind, composer for games and media.

Just trying out the Chinese Bawu bamboo woodwind i bought a few days ago. I like the soaring sound.

The Bawu is an ancient chinese wind instrument with a free reed. It has a dark clarinet-like timbre. Since it only has a very narrow range of tones, it tend to benefit from playing with bending notes and similiar ornamentation (tongue flutter etc.) to give life into the performance.

I primarily use this instrument in ethnic (sometimes sad) scores I write/play. It's very effective to bring some emotion.

Comment: The rate is based upon that it only plays one octave, only exhaling, requires bending. =)

@MSmart19 yes, it's a really vibrant tone in the Bawu. Though it's note range just spans over an octave, you have to select the notes carefully and play alot with dynamics and bends to make the instrument "sing". =)

It takes years, and years of practise *kidding*. Well I guess I adapt quite easily to new instruments since I've been playing all kinds of instruments professionally for about 18 years. It's all about practise. This Bawu is a bamboo flute I found on ebay for a cheap buck. The sound is quite good though. I like it. Glad you liked it too!
