Two-transistor oscillator project from Electrolab kit. This project could be an excellent start to variations such as simple synthesizers, theremins, tannerins and the like.
Book accompanying kit: This is from a Radio Shack Electronics Learninglab kit: Workbook 1 by Forrest Mims III. Perhaps there is a similar project, complete with schematic diagram in "Getting Started with Electronics," by the same author. I've tried looking for the schematic elsewhere online but with no good results. I just recall you can use a 3904 and 3906 transistors, a ceramic capacitor, minispeaker and battery holder (from 1.5V to 9V). Also see Potar's vid of two transistor oscillator.
