NTLDR is compressed. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart by Britec.co.uk

1. Start the Recovery Console. If you do not have the Recovery Console installed, start it from the Windows XP compact disc CD. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Insert the Windows XP CD and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.

b. When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.

c. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the recovery console.

d. When prompted, type the Administrator password.

2. At the command prompt, type "cd \" without the quotation marks, and then press ENTER.

3. Type "ren ntldr ntldr.old" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

4. Type "map" without the quotation marks, and then press ENTER.

5. Note the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD. It is displayed in a format similar to the following: D: \Device\CdRom0

6. Type "expand (drive)\i386\ntldr._" (without the quotation marks) (where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD, and then press ENTER. For example:

copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\

copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

  • is there anyway to do it without a CD.. Help Please

  • @YellowBoy21 1 more thing I've noticed, is that it doesn't ask me which Windows installation I'd like to log onto. Also, it doesn't ask me for an Admin password. It just goes to the 3rd step in the process, but instead of it showin' "C:\WINDOWS>," it shows "C:\>" and I can't change it.

  • Thanks for sharing this.

  • i have C:\ D:\ A:\ E:\ and F:\ . C and D are harddrives. A is Floppy0. E is CdRom0 . And F is CdRom1. So what shuld i type? Please help

  • boot from usb is misssing.....everytime i hit ctrl+alt+del it restarts and the same display as usual.... saying NTLDR is missing press ctrl+alt+del....any other way to fix it?

  • If this worked, thats fantastic. If not, please take the time to do the following:

Boot from the XP install CD, get to a recovery console (follow the prompts) in the 1st line, type "cd c:\" without quotation marks and press enter.

,then type "attrib -c ntldr" without quotation marks and press enter. type "exit" and reboot!

  • hi, i followed all of the directions exactly...but at the end i hit exit, and then remove the cd, and it reboots back into the "ntldr is compressed" message again. The only differences i see are that i used a windows xp media center cd on a windows xp home edition laptop; does this make a difference? thanjs

  • fuck men, I do it, I love u
