  • The belief in free will is essentially an acknowledgment that we are transcendent creatures. Natural science gives us cause-and-effect and statistical quantum randomness. Free will must come from something beyond our time and space. So the belief in God is the first step to taking up the heavy responsibility of making moral choices. But, as the psalm says, wisdom BEGINS with fear of the Lord.

    In other words, as Albus Dumbledore remarked, "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

    I believe this to be the meaning of Rebbetzin Jungreis's words. Any dissenters?

  • Her ending, "The only thing that matters is your belief in God" sounds dangerously similar to Chirstian doctrine, namely, the concept that one's actions matter not and that the ticket to heaven lies solely in one's belief in God and Jesus as the savior of mankind.

    This cannot be what she means. Rather, she means that our starting point in life is out of our control; whether we are weak, strong, rich, or poor is decided by God. We have no choice in the matter. What we can control, however, is
