Fox wedging is a joinery technique for a mortise and tenon joint where the wedge is fitted into a sawn kerf in the tenon. As the tenon is driven into the mortise, the wedge flares the split tenon and locks it in place.

  • Kari,

I watched your video on the fox tenon. This is something I have never tried. You make it look easy but do-able.I have turned my attention on woodturning over the past 10 years but you make me want to go back and build something. I have the "workbench book" where I saw the Roubo bench. In 1987 I made a Frank Klause (speling?) workbench. A labor of love....Thanks so much for you work. I do have one question. What program did you use for the graphic-animation in you video? Sam

  • @WYOMINGWOODTURNER Thank you, Sam. :o) I drew the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator CS5, and used iMovie to make the movie.

  • Did you drill it out and do it again? The rest of the project was first rate, it'd be a shame for the knob to be less perfect than the other parts.

  • @deezynar I left it as-is to remind myself to embrace imperfection. :o)

  • so funny.... Look it's how it's done. S#@t, it's broken .

  • @strolgen haha! I'm happy to show off my boo-boos. Glad you liked it. ; )

  • Thanks for the video Carrie (I know your name from wood talk online :) By the way I like your mallet.

  • I saw another version of the Fox Tenon where the mortise was flared out towards the back so that when the wedge opened up the tenon it had somewhere to go and really was impossible to pull back out.

You can see that joint done at 3:50 seconds in to this video by Roy Underhill

For that url above just add the h-t-t-p-w-w-w etc. at the beginning

  • @VillageCarpenter I'm actually very glad I watch your video. Pick up a few tips on the way.

Between, I love your plane collection so as your shop. I'm still limited to a table saw and router but enjoy myself!

  • I adore how you work Kari, thank you so much for sharing I hope you can upload more vids. Beautyful entertainment !
