Dean Jeffries' Monkeemobile #2 (he built 2 for the show) a modified '66 Pontiac GTO driven by "Davy Jones" races against a Carroll Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe in a head to head battle, from "Monkees Race Again" (Wipe-out remix added for effect)

Hendrix was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked GTO registered to Tork at a gas station near Santa Monica or Malibu. As the story goes a car came into gas station striking the GTO with such a force to spin the car around. Hendrix's ankle was injured. (each Monkee was given a free GTO and they were taken back by Pontiac after the Monkees were dissolved). Stephen Stills also drove Torks GTO frequently and it he was probably riding Hendrix around during this incident.

Amazing that at one time the real Daytonas were available to do TV shows and such. Now they are all over 6 million dollars and parked in museums! I have an exact replica of the same car, available for shoots... search YouTube for 'Jack Lawrence Daytona' for details.

Actually, it may well have been CSX2287, the missing car located in 2001 that used to belong to Phil Spector!

Jimi totaled Tork's GTO, not the Monkeemobile.
