February 2005
Is a century of psychoanalysis completely wrong? Ever since Freud, eating disorders have been considered psychiatric ailments. A revolutionary theory has turned this on its head. A Stockholm clinic is asserting that diseases such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia are not psychiatric illnesses at all, which means they require radically different treatment. In defiance of conventional medicine, the clinic offers what may well be the World's first ever cure.

  • So many clinics re-fed so that the patient gains weight by giving them junk food or excessive portions and then throwing them out once they are at a healthy weight. This solves nothing. You really need to know what to eat, nutrition, portions, to get back a healthy relationship with food again. Shoving food at a person isn't going to solve any problem especially junk food. So the treatment isn't entirely wrong. It is just scary they don't think you need to treat psychological issues.

  • The narrator sounds like he's David Attenborough observing wildlife.

  • Skills? Applying makeup. What an irony.

  • @alicen657 do you think that she wants to be called fake ?

  • eating disorders are caused by low self esteem, not by too little food and too much excersise! thats what happens after!!!! WTF

  • @DebbieHarryxxx I think its more about accepting yourself, feeling pretty, that you "deserve" to dress up and such.

  • omg the person at 3:39 is fake unless she's like 6 or something

  • to teach them the skills they may have forgotten? like putting on mascara?! in what world does having an eating disorder make you forget how to put mascara on? lol

  • @darkangelLL thank you. exactly what i was thinking.

  • They claim to focus more on behavioural training and building social life and confidence as their website says, that is technically treating psychological issues. Behaviour training is what a therapist would use. The problem is many of these girls need someone to talk to, and should be able to see a therapist as part of their programme, someone qualified and someone who knows what they are doing. Not just someone to sit and eating with them and tell them what to eat.
