April 9, 2011
Mel Chin is an artist whose projects include Revival Field (use of plants to remove toxic metals from soil) and most recently Fundred Dollar Bill/Operation Paydirt Project. Chin investigates how art can provoke greater social awareness and responsibility. Chin's work was documented in the popular PBS program Art of the 21st Century.
Chin's presentation considers many processes and solutions to deal with toxic lead contaminated soils in New Orleans and West Oakland. He discusses the responsibility to follow-through with real answers and relates his work to the current-day lead contamination in West Dallas.
